Christopher Alan James, 31, fondly known as Chris, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, July 17, 2026. Born on June 5, 1995, Chris spent his formative years in the Wrens-Matthews area, graduating from Wrens High School before embarking on a journey that would touch the lives of many.

Chris will be remembered as a true free spirit—a truly unique individual, living his life on his own terms and embracing each day with authenticity and generosity. He worked as a laborer for several companies, finding particular joy in landscaping jobs.

Chris’s minimalist lifestyle was rooted in a profound sense of contentment with the little he had. He was never materialistic and enjoyed the simple life, getting by with only the barest of necessities. He found companionship and adventure in his love for cycling. Traveling by bike, he would often head out, destination unknown, all the while enjoying the outdoors and eager to explore the country wherever the road might lead him.

Music played a special role in Chris’s life. With his guitar in hand, he would often sing and play, sharing his love of music. His generosity knew no bounds; even when he had little to give, Chris readily shared with others. He never met a stranger and was always sensitive to the needs of people he encountered.

Chris possessed a deep and unwavering faith and was never ashamed to share it, often quoting scripture. Even though he faced personal struggles, he carried a loving spirit, treating others as Jesus would. He loved his family dearly and valued the friendships he made along the way, leaving a legacy of compassion and genuine concern for others.

Chris’s memory is cherished by his loving parents, Michael and Shirley James; his siblings, Michelle Gowen and husband Billy, Adam James, Marc James and wife Stacie, Angela Haile and husband Cody, and Shannon James; and his large extended family, including his sixteen nieces and nephews, Mattlyn Shelton (Noah), Ansley Renew, Zane Renew, Kayla Gowen, Melanie Gowen, Will Gowen, Harley James, Steven James, Ty James, Somrics Witherspoon, Avery Kate James, Hunter Haile, Rylee Haile, Emmarie Haile, Grace Haile,Elayna Haile, and Samuel Haile. He is also remembered tenderly by all whose lives he touched. Chris is preceded in death by his brother Matt James and nephew Levi James.

To honor Chris, family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 10:00am, Thursday, July 23, 2026 at the James Family Cemetery with Drew Moore officiating.

Chris lived a life shaped by faith, love, and the spirit of giving. Though his time here was all too brief, his memory and the love he shared will remain indelible in the hearts of all who knew him.
