Celia Elizabeth “Betty” Wade Terry
Stapleton, GA – Celia Elizabeth “Betty” Wade Terry, 87, loving wife of the late Clinton Sanders Terry Jr., entered into her eternal rest Tuesday evening, December 18, 2018 at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday morning, December 22, 2018 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mira Barrett officiating. Interment will follow in the Stapleton Memorial Gardens.
The baby of seven children of the late Della Waldroop Harris Wade and the late Albert Wade, Betty was born and raised in Melrose, New Mexico. After graduating from Melrose High School, she attended and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales NM. She then continued her education at Scarritt College in Nashville TN where she earned her Master’s degree in Christian Education. Before obtaining her Masters Degree, Betty moved to Wrens as a Rural Worker with the Methodist Church. When her car broke down on a country road, she met her future husband, who was home on leave from the Air Force. They settled in Stapleton when he left the military. A homemaker and educator, Betty was widely known in the area. A “Proverbs 31” woman, she was a loving wife and devoted mother. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, quilting and cross-stitching. Having a servant’s heart, she always put others’ needs before her own. Betty was very active in the church and community, volunteering at the food pantry and serving in any way she could. Having a heart for young people, she encouraged them to go to church and Sunday School—often taking them when they did not have a ride. She loved her family unconditionally and was most content in their presence. Betty will be remembered for her quiet manner, unassuming nature, generous spirit, and genuine smile that exuded a pure heart. This Godly woman will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Betty is also preceded in death by all six of her siblings. Survivors include her children, Mary Ann Braswell (Bobby), Chuck Terry (Joanette) and Scott Terry; five grandchildren, Eric Braswell (Jamie), Chase Braswell (Rhonda), Clinton Terry (Megan), Brandon Terry and Emily Terry; four great grandchildren, Anna Palmer Braswell, Banks Braswell, Dixie Braswell and Kevin Braswell; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren—Eric, Chase, Clinton Brandon and Emily—and Craig Davis.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at James Funeral Home Friday evening, December 21, 2018.
