Cecil Ray Evans

July 17, 1938 — January 7, 2026

Keysville, GA

Cecil Ray Evans, 87, a beloved figure known for his industrious spirit and unwavering love for his family, peacefully transitioned into his eternity on January 7, 2026, at Brentwood Health Center in Waynesboro.

Born on July 17, 1938, Cecil grew up in Keysville, where he attended Keysville School until the 10th grade. At that point, he made the decision to leave school to work alongside his father in the logging business. In 1956, he married the love of his life and embarked on a journey that would span decades filled with devotion and partnership.

In 1969, Cecil’s career as a pipe fitter for Duke Power took him to South Carolina, where he dedicated himself to providing for his family. After many years, he returned "home" in 1996 upon retiring from Southeastern Sprinkler Company. Cecil was well-known for his industrious nature; he would leave home for work on Sunday evenings and return on Thursdays, often playing in a softball league each Friday evening. Sundays were reserved for family, as he cherished the tradition of gathering for a family dinner every week.

Even after his retirement and return to Keysville, Cecil remained busy, taking on several local jobs. He genuinely enjoyed life, relishing in the pleasures of hunting, fishing, and watching sports. His enthusiasm for baseball, football, and NASCAR was infectious.

Cecil was described as a true jokester, someone who loved to laugh and share stories about the family and the "good 'ole days." He believed in old-fashioned values, always placing his family at the heart of his life. His dependable nature made him not only a great friend but also someone his family could always count on. Cecil's love for his family knew no bounds, evident in his dedication and the joy he found in their company.

He is survived by his children, Brenda Hornbuckle (John), Linda Evans, Betty Coward, and Jean Barnaby (Phil); eight grandchildren, Jason Pitts, Josh Hornbuckle, Lexie Christopher (Brandon), Stephanie Haynes, Michael Coward, Brandi George, Tiffany Tyner, and Samantha Hawkins (Steven); eleven great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.

Cecil is preceded in death by his loving spouse, Flora Belle Williams Evans; daughter, Bobbie Tyner; grandson, Evan Tyner; parents, Mamie Watts Evans Gresham and Ray Evans; and siblings, Harold Evans, Dean Evans, Walter Evans, and Ruth McDonald.

A visitation will be held in his honor Monday evening, January 12, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at James Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow on Tuesday afternoon, January 13, 2026, at 1:00 PM in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ed Chance officiating. Honored to serve as pallbearers include Phil Barnaby, Dylan Evans, Glenn Evans, Jackson Evans, William Evans and John Hornbuckle.

Cecil Ray Evans' legacy of love, hard work, and laughter will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege to know him.
