Carter Daniel Gay

October 17, 2006 — February 29, 2024

Matthews, GA

Carter Daniel Gay, 17, a cherished soul who walked this earth with a deep connection to his faith and an unwavering love for Jesus, tragically left this world and entered into his eternal home in Heaven Thursday evening, February 29, 2024.  Carter's journey, though brief, was marked by a profound devotion to his heavenly father and a burning desire to spread the message of love and salvation.

To honor Carter’s life, and more importantly to glorify his Lord and Savior, the family will receive friends from 5:00-9:00PM Thursday evening, March 7, 2024 at Wrens Baptist Church.  A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00PM Friday afternoon, March 8, 2024 at Wrens Baptist Church with Rev. Scott McKinney officiating.  Interment will follow in the Wrens Memorial Gardens.

Born on October 17, 2006, Carter lived a life that was deeply rooted in his faith and love for Jesus Christ. From a tender age, Carter's heart was touched by the Holy Spirit and he answered God’s call on his life being baptized at Wrens Baptist Church on February 9, 2014. He embraced his calling to share the teachings of Jesus with all who crossed his path. Whether it was on the sandy shores or within the walls of his school or on the football field—wherever he was, Carter's passion for illuminating the way to God's grace shone brightly. His commitment to prayer was unwavering, as he stood as a beacon of faith for his family, friends, and community.  He had a hunger and thirst for the Word, journalizing God’s instructions for his life as he daily studied the Bible.  Carter’s desire was for everyone he met to know Jesus and experience God’s love and grace.   Even at this young, tender age, he understood that he had to protect his eyes, ears and heart from Satan and his influences; so Carter chose to make his decisions in life based on spiritual knowledge from God’s word and not on his human nature or head knowledge.

Academically and athletically gifted, Carter thrived as a junior at Thomas Jefferson Academy. His membership in the BETA club, stellar academic performance, and active participation in both the football and shotgun teams showcased his multifaceted talents. Beyond his achievements, Carter was known for his endearing persona—a curious mind thirsting for knowledge, a kind-hearted son, a protective brother, and a loyal friend. He was a natural leader with a positive, can-do attitude.

With a personality that radiated warmth and wisdom beyond his years, Carter was beloved by all who knew him. Being “an old soul in a young man’s body”, he embraced life as a country boy with a cowboy heart, finding solace in hunting, fishing, and nurturing his love for horses and roping and riding. He was the epitome of a true woodsman. Recently drawn to the family farm alongside his dad and Pop, Carter embraced every challenge with courage and tenacity. In moments of leisure, Carter found joy in the simple pleasures of spending time with loved ones. His presence illuminated the lives of those around him as he reveled in the wonder of God's creation.

Carter Daniel Gay leaves behind grieving yet grateful parents, Natalie Daniel Gay and Jeremy Gay; along with his brother, William Gay; sister, Ava Grace Gay; grandparents, Connie and Jim Gay and Elaine and Mike Daniel; aunts and uncles, Jessica and Adam Howard, Michael Daniel and Christy and Brian Presgrove; cousins, Sarah Faye Howard and Harrison Howard; girlfriend, Sadie Poteet; extended family members; countless friends; Wrens Baptist Church and Stevens Creek Church families—all deeply impacted by his light during his time among us.  Honored to be pallbearers include Jeff Blackstone, Terrence Hennessy, Robert Jones, Jose Martinez, Randy Miller and Barrow Walden. His honorary pallbearers will be TJA’s football team, shotgun team and the Class of 2025.

Carter had a vision and passion for a men’s ministry in Matthews. He was honored to have helped start this ministry; therefore, the family strongly suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions to help continue and flourish this fledgling ministry that Carter loved be made to Your Hope Church, 5789 GA Hwy 88 E, Matthews GA 30818.

Carter lived life to its fullest, thoroughly enjoying the Lord’s blessings every day. As we mourn the loss of Carter from our earthly bounds due to this tragic accident, we find solace in knowing that he now resides in eternal peace with his Savior. Though our hearts ache with sorrow at his absence, we hold onto the hope of reuniting with him one glorious day. May we find comfort in our memories of Carter's unyielding faith as we honor his legacy of Christ’s love and devotion.
