Carolyn Cecilia Carpenter May, 77, known for her vibrant personality and love for her family, peacefully transitioned into her eternity on July 30, 2024, at Doctors Hospital.
Born on January 29,1947, to the late Sophie French Gregory Carpenter and the late Jack Carpenter, Carolyn grew up in Augusta and was a 1965 graduate of Butler High School.
After graduating high school, Carolyn embarked on a fruitful career path. She initially worked as a purchasing agent for McKesson before briefly relocating to Florida to work as an x-ray technician. Upon returning to Georgia, she continued her career as a purchasing agent at Ft. Gordon, where she would eventually retire after dedicating 20 years of service in 1995.
In June 1977, Carolyn met the love of her life while working at Ft. Gordon. Their six-month whirlwind romance culminated in a beautiful marriage that lasted 47 happy years. Together, they built their forever home outside of Wrens on Hwy 221, creating countless cherished memories.
Carolyn's true joy came from meeting new people and nurturing relationships. Described as a "people-person" with the "gift of gab," she had a unique ability to make strangers feel like lifelong friends. Her warm and welcoming nature endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Carolyn's hobbies reflected her creative spirit – she enjoyed crafts, painting, sewing, playing cards, and watching true crime stories on ID TV. She particularly loved hosting pool parties and cook-outs for her family and friends, where she could share laughter and create lasting bonds.
She is survived by her loving husband Joe Harrison May; daughter Missy Kase (Mike); grandchildren Heather Russell (Tyler), Nicholas Woods, Mitchell Black, Lorie Black, and Ciara Kase; great-grandchildren Zaylee Woods, Millie Burch, Brantley Russell, Abby Black, and River Blackwell; sister Cherie Munoz (Noel); along with other extended family members and friends.
Carolyn is also predeceased by her two children Greg Black and Katie Woods; and brother George Carpenter.
A Celebration of Life service to honor Carolyn's remarkable life will be held at 5:00PM Saturday, August 17, 2024 at James Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Stavely officiating. The visitation will take place after the service to allow family and friends the opportunity to pay their last respects.
In remembrance of Carolyn Cecilia Carpenter May's enduring legacy of love and friendship, may we find comfort in the memories we shared with her.
