Carolyn Kennedy Johnson
Wrens, GA – Mary Carolyn Kennedy Johnson, 73, loving wife of 55 years to Henry Clayton Johnson III, entered into her eternal rest early Saturday morning, March 23, 2019 at her home. Graveside services to celebrate her life will be held in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery at 3:00 P.M. Monday afternoon, March 25, 2019 with Rick Carver officiating. The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 1:30 – 3:00 P.M. prior to graveside services.
One of five children born to the late Beulah Grace Farmer Kennedy and the late Martin Luther Kennedy, Carolyn grew up in Russellville KY and graduated from Olmstead High School. She fell in love and married a soldier stationed at Ft. Campbell. Shortly after marriage in 1964, they were transferred to Ft. Gordon and made their home in Wrens. Carolyn accepted Jesus as her Savior as a teenager in KY and served Him as a member of Wrens United Methodist Church. She has been described as a feisty little firecracker full of energy and life. She went everyday to the post office to check her mail just so she could see people and get caught up on the news. A people-person, she was not a stranger to anyone. Her fun-loving spirit was contagious. She loved to laugh, to tell and hear good jokes, and to dance and sing with her grandchildren. One of her most favorite places to go was to Harrah’s in Cherokee. Carolyn loved her family unconditionally—they were her first priority in life. A great cook, she found much pleasure in cooking for her family. She made their family dinners a time of love, a time of fellowship, and a time to store her treasures on earth—precious memories stored in her heart. A loving wife, devoted mother, and loyal friend, Carolyn will be truly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Carolyn is also preceded in death by three siblings, Ann Davis, Geraldine Fortney and Danny Kennedy. Other survivors include her children, Samantha J. Thrift (Arty) and Hank Johnson (Tiffany); a sister, Frances Kennedy Jones; four grandchildren, Kent Thrift (Katelyn), Ansley Thrift, Colby Johnson and Briley Johnson; nieces, nephews, church family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Arrington, Clete Clark, Wayne Favors, Larry McGraw, Rhett Reid and Andy Walden.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor be made to the Shriners Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa FL 33607 or online at donorrelations@shrinenet.org.
