Brian “Bubba” Curtis Thigpen Jr.
Matthews, GA – Brian “Bubba” Curtis Thigpen Jr., 16, loving son of Patricia “Patty” Ann Prickett Thigpen, instantly entered into his eternity after a tragic accident Friday afternoon, June 17, 2022. Services to celebrate his life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 A.M. Friday morning, July 1, 2022 with Rev. Gary Caudill officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery in Matthews.
Lovingly known as “Bubba” by family and friends, he lived all of his life in the Matthews-Wrens area and was a Junior at Jefferson County High School. Bubba was looking forward to his Senior Year and being the first in his family to graduate high school. Being in the USA Skills Class with Coach Borum and competing all of the state of Georgia gave him great pride. Learning different skills was important to him because he wanted to make a better life for himself and his family. Bubba had a special bond with his mother and, after having grown up in a single-parent home and knowing his mother’s struggles to provide for him and his sisters, wanted to help make her life easier. A very active teenager, Bubba absolutely loved being outdoors—hunting, fishing (he could “out fish” everybody!) and any water activity. He has been described as being an old soul in a young man’s body—he was mature beyond his years; being very polite and respectful to all adults; being helpful and a hard worker; being very loving; being a great son, brother, nephew and friend; being generous to anyone in need; and giving the best hugs ever. Children were naturally drawn to Bubba and it was said that he seemed to always have a kid on his hip when he was home. He especially loved spending time with his niece, Stormi. He loved his family with his whole being and his greatest desire was for their happiness and well-being. Bubba loved greatly and was greatly loved—he was happy and loved life.
Bubba was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Larry Thigpen. Others left to cherish his memories include his father, Brian Curtis Thigpen Sr. (Monica); his siblings, Alexis Thigpen, Brianna Thigpen, Loretta Deakins, Riley Thigpen, Steven Usry and Karen Johnson; maternal grandfather, Allen Prickett; maternal grandmother, Denna Hernandez; paternal grandmother, Donna Thigpen; special niece, Stormi Thigpen; aunts, uncles, cousins, other extended family, and a multitude of friends. Servings as pallbearers will be Justin Blackmon, Johnathon Byrd, Lance Byrd, Will Gay, Brandon Osborne and Josh Welch. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Bragg Jr., Abel Garcia, Ian Miller and Gilberto Vasquez.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday evening, June 30, 2022.
