Bobbie Jean Gibson Welch

Avera, GA –         Bobbie Jean Gibson Welch, 68, loving wife of the late C.W. Welch, entered into her eternal rest Monday, December 19, 2022 at her residence.  Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 23, 2022 with Reverend David O. Jones officiating.  Interment will follow in the Walker Cemetery in Dearing.

Born to the late Barbara Flake Gibson and the late Gene Gibson in Waynesboro, Bobbie was raised by her late beloved grandmother, Mattie Ruth Gibson, in Savannah where she attended high school.  After moving to Sardis, she met the love of her life when he helped her when she had car trouble in Swainsboro.  After a whirlwind romance, they married in 1972 and settled in Jefferson County.  They started their family rather quickly with Bobbie being homemaker and stay-at-home mom.  It was her priority to provide a loving, safe-haven for her family.  After the loss of her beloved husband in 2005, Bobbie obtained her CNA, working at Silver Linings Personal Care Home, formerly Three Gables, for 10 +/- years, as well as providing personal home care for the elderly in the area.  Bobbie loved all sorts of puzzles, adult coloring books, and cross-stitching.  Being quick-witted, she had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.  It has been said that “she never met a stranger and could talk the horns off a billy goat”.  Always there to help others in need in anyway she could, Bobbie was very generous and considerate.  She accepted God’s free gift of salvation through his son, Jesus, and attended several local churches, the last being Jordan Chapel and Duhart Baptist Church. Above all else, she loved her family and was most content in their presence. Spending time with her grandchildren filled her heart with great joy. Bobbie now has a new, pain-free body and is worshipping her Lord and Savior in her forever home in Heaven.

Bobbie is also preceded in death by her siblings, Ruth Bolton, David Bolton, Randy Bolton, Henry Gay and Gail Oglesby. Those left to cherish her memories include her children, Chris Welch (Cindy), Lynn Smith (Eric), George Welch (Mandi), Harvey Welch (Julie), Kirby Welch and Joey Welch (Jennifer); nine grandchildren, Jenny Howard (Marcus), Bradley Rogers (Crystal), Corey Rogers (Kylee), Michael Rogers (Gabby), Erica Judd (Ben), Tyler Smith (Rachel), Tanner Smith (Joselyne), Bailey Dross (Patrick), and Hannah Askey (Christian); fourteen great grandchildren with two more on the way; two siblings, Robbie Bolton (Cathy) and Ricky Bolton; nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. Servings as pallbearers will be her grandsons.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00PM Thursday evening, December 22, 2022.
