Hephzibah, GA – Billy Jeanne Whitaker Reese, 79, entered into rest Tuesday morning, February 25, 2014 at her residence. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00PM, Thursday, February 27, 2014 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Wayne Bruner officiating.
The youngest of three children born to the late Nancy Gladys Phillips Whitaker and the late Edgar Lee Whitaker, Billy lived and grew up in Florida and Tennessee. She moved to the CSRA after marrying at the age of 23 and has lived here ever since raising and caring for her children. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church on Lumpkin Road in Augusta. Billy had a very outgoing personality and never met a stranger—she would introduce herself and talk to anybody and everybody, even in the grocery lines. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed playing computer games. Billy loved to shop but not in the traditional sense. Addicted to HSN and QVC, packages arrived almost daily with things bought for her family. Billy, a confirmed “home body”, loved just being at home enjoying her family. Her quirky personality and generous spirit will be greatly missed.
Billy was also preceded in death by two children, Clayton Allen Reese and Brenda Gail Doyle; and both siblings, Edgar Lee Whitaker, Jr. and Elizabeth “Betty” Watson. Survivors include her children, Garland Marie Frankum (Charles), Nancy Kathleen Cooke (Howard), Curtis Arnold Reese and Donna Reese Kight (Mike); eighteen grandchildren, Howard Lee Cooke, Kathryn Cooke, Derrick Varn, Scott Frankum, Kyle Frankum, Miles Frankum, Mariah Needler, Rene Pitts, Chevy Reese, David Reese, Jimmy Reese, Mary Kight, Angel Lamberth, Pepper Flanagan, Jenny Saxon, Joshua Doyle, Tabitha Doyle, and Jelynna Doyle; twenty-seven great grandchildren, Charles Cooke, Starr Dudley, Trinity Huber, Cameron Huber, Crimson Frankum, Aalorai Frankum, Drake Frankum, Aurora Nisley, Kayle Needler, Briana Needler, Savannah Pitts, Chase Parry, Dakota Williams, Casey Reese, Tiffany Reese, Sierra Reese, Anissa Reese, Destiny Reese, Xavier Reese, Faith Jentry, Cassidy Jentry, Ty King, Jordan Lamberth, Patric Flanagan, Reese Saxon, Colton Saxon and Sadie Saxon; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home prior to the service from 1:00-2:00PM on Thursday, February 27, 2014.
Heartfelt thanks are extended to Hospice Care of America, especially to Kathy and Alecia, for their loving, professional care.
The family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to The American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next.
