Betty Ann Wiggins Lewis
Wrens, GA – With her family at her side, Betty Ann Wiggins Lewis, 88, loving wife of the late Robert “Bobby” Lewis, entered into her eternal rest early Thursday morning, February 20, 2020 at Camellia Walk in Evans. Graveside services to celebrate her life will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday afternoon, February 22, 2020 with Brother Wes Garin officiating in the Wrens Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
One of three daughters of the late Anna Belle Usry Wiggins and the late George Romie Wiggins, Betty was born in Glascock County and lived her young life in Gibson, a place she felt was one step away from heaven. After graduating high school, she married the love of her life and moved to Wrens, where they raised their three children. Her life was full of tales of growing up the “old” way…from times of roller skating in the Glascock County Courthouse to piling in together for dances in Warner Robins and Warrenton. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior—she did not believe in “religion” but put her faith in Him by the continual development of her personal relationship with Jesus. She could be found watching Billy Graham and listening to gospel music, especially the Gaithers. She shared her love of music, which also included Elvis and Broadway musicals, with her children. Betty enjoyed all sports, but had a special love for Braves baseball. She also enjoyed staying at home, reading and quilting, and was a collector of angels and bells. Above all else, Betty loved her family—she was a dedicated and adoring grandmother to her seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Betty was also preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Neal. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Barbara Lewis Thigpen (Mike), Carla Lewis Garin, and Brian Lewis (Julianna); a sister, Romiette Smallwood; seven grandchildren, West Garin, Kurt Garin (Artemis), Tyler Thigpen, Cassidy Claussen (Henry), Adam Lewis (Heather), Ben Lewis (Brooke) and Brianna Minick (Jon); five great grandchildren, Cooper, Vivian, Parker, Bailey and Benjamin; and son-in-law, Tony Garin.
The family respectfully requests that, in lieu flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Mary On The Hill School, 1220 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta GA 30904.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday evening, February 21, 2020.
