“B.C.” Bivyon Charles Smith


Gibson, GA  – “B.C.” Bivyon Charles Smith, 78, loving husband of 56 yrs to Joyce Williams Smith, entered into rest Sunday morning, May 12, 2013 at Doctors Hospital.  Funeral services will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00P M Thursday, May 16, 2013 with Don Poole, Rev David Davis and Rev Douglas Lee officiating.  Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

B.C. was one of three sons born to the late Marie Kate Clark Smith and the late Charles Bivyon Smith.in Glascock County.  He was a member of Gibson Church of God and of the JJG Hunting Club, was Mayor of Avera for 17 years, and was a Special Deputy of Jefferson County.  He retired from Gibbs Auto Parts with 42 years of service, being a great “supervisor” both at work and home. B.C. enjoyed fishing, having cookouts for family and friends, and “riding” farm land checking the crops, especially on the Williams Farm. He loved NASCAR and was a big Earnhardt fan—both #3 and #88.  B.C. was very gregarious and loved to socialize but his heart belonged to his family, especially his grandkids.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Baby Boy Smith; and two brothers, Walton Smith and Mervin Smith. Other survivors include his daughter, Juanice Smith Gordy; three grandchildren, Amanda Gordy, Justin Gordy and Matthew Gordy; niece, Julie Smith May; nephew, Trent Smith; and many friends.  Pallbearers will be Billy Faglier, Michael Gilmer, William Goodson, Ronnie Hadden, Greg Walden, Keith Walden and Richard Walden. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Clark, James Clark, Russell Clark, Troy Clark, Dean Couch, Cary Deal, Verlon Downs, Roger Dye, Troy Hadden, Jeremy Kelly, Russell Manning, Warren Mathis, Wade Rabun, Ott Stephens, George Thompson, Melvin Todd and Charles Walden.

The family will receive friends from 6:00PM – 8:00PM Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at James Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Glascock County Concerned Citizens For Cancer, c/o Mary Chalker, PO Box 116, Gibson GA 30810.
