Alvin Lawrence Holton, 82, passed away peacefully into his eternity Friday morning, July 10, 2026, at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. Born on April 18, 1944, Alvin’s life was a testament to resilience, dedication, and a deeply-rooted sense of faith and honor.
A native of Davisboro, his family moved to Wrens in 1952. Alvin grew up surrounded by the values of hard work, loyalty, and connection that shaped the person he would become. He was proud to be a 1963 graduate of Wrens High School, an accomplishment that held a special place in his heart.
Alvin’s sense of duty led him to answer the call to serve his country. In 1965, he joined the United States Air Force, serving with courage in Viet Nam. His time in the military instilled a profound sense of patriotism and tenacity—qualities that would define much of his life’s journey.
After returning home, Alvin embarked on a remarkable career with CSX Railroad, dedicating forty years as a conductor. His colleagues and loved ones knew him as a steadfast and reliable presence—organized, disciplined, and never one to procrastinate. Through his professional life, he supported his family with unwavering commitment and integrity.
Alvin accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, serving Him at Davisboro United Methodist Church. After his move to Wrens, he joined the fellowship of Wrens United Methodist Church, now Wrens Christian Fellowship Church.
A man of varied interests, Alvin enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. In his earlier years, he found serenity while fishing, a pastime that allowed him moments of quiet reflection. He was an avid traveler, having visited every state, and delighted in adventures both near and far. Alvin loved going to the movies, combing beaches, embracing stories and experiences with enthusiasm and joy. Beyond his personal hobbies, he was a proud Freemason, and had been a dedicated member of Fleming Masonic Lodge 718 since 1975—a community that provided camaraderie and purpose.
Alvin described himself as “happy-go-lucky” and a true survivor of life’s hardships. His dedication and loyalty towards his loved ones were always evident. He was the steady force that family members could depend on, supporting them through life’s seasons and challenges.
Alvin is survived by his devoted daughters, Renee H. Tebault (Mark) of Achworth, and Pamela H. Scott (David) of Tifton; grandchildren, Lucas Tebault, Tye Tebault, Yale Holton, and Levie Rice; great-grandchildren, Lettie Holton, Evie Rice, and Coy Rice; sisters, Gwen Swint (Louis) and Joyce May (Jimmy); brothers, Ricky Holton and Wayne Holton.; nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. Alvin’s enduring love and presence will remain forever in their hearts.
He now reunites with those who passed before him: his beloved son, Alvin “Al” Holton Jr.; his parents, Mattie Elizabeth Arrington Holton and Jewell Euvee “UV” Holton; and his siblings, James Holton, Marvin Holton, Dorothy Josey, Valeria Holton, Barbara Holton, Edward Holton, Henry Holton, and Carolyn Holton.
