Alma A. Williams

Avera, GA  – Alma Alexander Williams, loving wife of 50 years to the late Lamar S. Williams Sr., entered into rest Thursday night, April 2, 2015 at Jefferson Hospital. Funeral services will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at 3:00PM on Sunday, April 5, 2015 with Rev. David Davis and Michael Thigpen officiating.  Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

One of six children born to the late Leslie Myracle Alexander and the late Herman L. Alexander, Alma was born and raised in Darden TN.  After marrying the love of her life in 1945, they made their home in Avera where she was a homemaker, lovingly taking care of her family. She loved to garden—both vegetable and flower—and was still working outside until her recent decline in health. She was known for her cooking abilities, especially her tarts and tea cakes. Alma loved her Lord and Savior serving Him as an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she worked in Sunday School, Church Training, GAs, Acteens, WMU and Senior Citizens. For many decades, she served as treasurer for WMU and Senior Citizens. She loved going to church, supporting missions and visiting the sick and shut-ins. Above all else, she loved her family—children and grandchildren—and was most content in their presence. A loving, gentle, compassionate, generous lady is now enjoying the fruits of her labor. Her unselfish, abiding love will be greatly missed.

Alma is also preceded in death by her son, Lamar S. Williams,Jr.; her great granddaughter, River Isabella; her siblings, Bonnie A. Houston, Mack Barnett, Jim Alexander and John F. Alexander; her step mother, Gliner Myracle; and step-brother, Warren Myracle. Survivors include her children, Brenda W. Moye (Frank), Larry W. Williams (Kathy) and Jan Marie Williams; a sister, Dorothy Carrington; seven grandchildren, Michael Thigpen (Deidre), Jonathan Thigpen (Jennifer), Jennifer Arthur, Stephanie W. Jones (Brad), Seth Williams, Leslie Davis and Karla Prescott (Kip); thirteen great grandchildren, Stephen Thigpen, Emma Grace Thigpen, Tyler Brody, Reagan Thigpen, Tyler Thigpen, Bailey Jones, Brantley Jones, Caleb Jones, Kaylee Davis, Mason Davis, Kady Prescott, Kelsee Prescott and Ava Arthur; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Annie Armstrong Easter Offering, c/o Pleasant Grove Baptist Chuch, 1350 Church St, Avera GA  30803

Loving and kind in all her ways,
Upright and just to the end of her days;
Sincere and true in her heart and mind.
A beautiful memory she left behind.
She had a nature you could not help loving,
A heart that was purer than gold;
And to those who knew her and loved her,
Her memory will never grow old.
