Gloria Laverne Luke Chalker
Stapleton, GA – Gloria Laverne Luke Chalker, 72, loving wife of 31+ years to John Daniel “Dan” Chalker, peacefully entered into her eternal rest early Thursday, August 25, 2022 at her residence. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday afternoon, August 30, 2022 with the Reverend Tommy Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Avera.
A native of Thomson, Gloria was a 1968 graduate of Thomson High School. After taking some secretarial classes, she worked for a local bank before joining Thiele Kaolin, retiring after 15 years of service in 1994. It was there that she met and later married Dan in November, 1990. In her younger years, Gloria enjoyed traveling, going on cruises, and going to the lake where she would fish and relax. Most of all, she loved being a homemaker and taking care of her family, making their home a loving safe-haven. A great cook, she loved trying new recipes and collected all types of cook books as well as cookware. Her artistic flare was apparent in her flower arrangements and decorating skills, especially for the holidays. She also loved her canine buddy, Duke, who was her constant companion. Gloria has been described as being charming and honest, sometimes to a fault. She had a loving, generous spirit about her that oozed warmth and made people feel comfortable in her presence. Most of all she had an absolute, unconditional love for her family, especially her grandchildren who “gave her life”. Having accepted God’s free gift of salvation through His son, Jesus Christ, Gloria actively served Him as a member of Bethel United Methodist Church until her health decline. Gloria has completed her journey on Earth and now, with a new, pain-free body, is forever worshipping her Lord and Savior in her forever home in Heaven.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Eula Reeves Luke and Bill Luke; and two siblings, Norma Jean Johnson and Harold Luke. Others left to cherish her memories include her children, Destiny Brinson, Gregory Chalker (Tami) and Brett Chalker (Natalie); four grandchildren, Stellar Smith, Mallory Chalker, Davis Chalker and Carson Chalker; brother, Larry Luke (Mary); brother-in-law, Leonard “Link” Johnson; other extended family, church family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Brooks, William Brooks, Jeff Brown, Greg Godbee, Bobby Mauck, Victor Raley, and Mark Rivers.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Bobbie Williams, PO Box 55, Avera GA 30803.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Monday evening, August 29, 2022.
