William “Bill” Harris Dozier

Blythe, GA  –              William “Bill” Harris Dozier, 79, loving companion to Dianne E. Cox and loving husband to the late Virginia Hambrick Dozier, entered into his eternal rest Thursday morning, November 2, 2017, at Augusta University Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at James Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, November 4, 2017 with Dr. James M. Ford officiating. Interment will follow in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

The only son born to the late Sara Broxton Dozier and the late Robert Harris Dozier, Bill was born and raised in Burke County. After graduating from Hephzibah High School, he attended and graduated from the University of Georgia before moving to Ft. Wayne where he worked for a large feed company. Upon his retirement twenty-five years later, he lived in Myrtle Beach for four years before moving back “home” to Burke County where he farmed. Bill loved being outdoors, so farming suited him well. His other outdoor activities included hunting, fishing and playing golf.  A hard worker, he was very active and always had to be doing something—he couldn’t just be still and stay put. Bill was a people-person and made life-long friends in his travels all over the U.S.  And, of course, he was a huge Bulldog fan...GO DAWGS!! Having a great sense of humor, he was a master story-teller and loved to share his many “adventures” with his family and friends, providing them with great entertainment and laughter. If you ever met Bill, you would never forget him—he made an impression.  People gravitated to his infectious personality.  Most of all, he loved his children and family, cherishing their time together and making life memories.

Those left to cherish his memory include his three children, Laurie Ann Dozier and husband David Wurm, William “Buddy” Harris Dozier Jr. and wife Lisa, and Victoria Dozier; two sisters, Faye Gay and Helen Sparks and husband Donald; two grandchildren, William “Harris” Dozier III and Carol “Clark” Dozier; several nephews, nieces, and many friends.  Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Gay, Jeremy Gay, Jim Gay, Smith Harden, Fred Parker and James Sparks.  Honorary pallbearers will be William Harris Dozier, III, Jacob Gay, Jonathan Gay, Jim Gay, John Sparks and Andrew Yon-Dozier.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made in memoriam to American Cancer Society, 2607 Commons Blvd, Augusta GA 30909.

The family will receive friends before the funeral services at James Funeral Home—from 1:30 – 3:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, November 4, 2017.

When I’m Gone

When I come to the end of my journey,
And I travel my last weary mile,
Just forget, if you can, that I ever frowned
And only remember the smile.
Forget unkind words I have spoken;
Remember some good I have done.
Forget that I ever had heartache
And remember I’ve had loads of fun.
Forget that I’ve stumbled and blundered
And sometimes fell by the way.
Remember I have fought some hard battles
And won, ere the close of the day.
Then forget to grieve for my going—
I would not have you sad for a day.
But in summer just gather some flowers
And remember the place where I lay,
And come in the shade of evening
When the sun paints the sky in the west.
Stand for a few moments beside me
And remember only my best.
