Vincent Todd Jones

Avera, GA  –              Vincent Todd Jones, 55, loving husband of 26 years to Tracie Lynn McGahee Jones, peacefully entered into his eternal rest Saturday night, July 22, 2017, at the Heritage Inn of Sandersville Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday morning, July 27, 2017 at Waldens United Methodist Church with Reverend Tommy Anderson officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

One of four children born to the late Janie Lou Peebles Jones and the late Roland “Buck” Odene Jones, Vince was born in the old Louisville Hospital, lived in Wrens, where he attended Wrens High School, and moved to Avera at the age of 29 when he married the love of his life. Vince was an iron worker for a short time, but loved construction work, anything from utility to residential construction. He had an artistic nature and loved to draw—he could draw anything—passing along that trait to his sons.  He had a passion for fishing, especially for bass.  He served his Lord and Savior by joining the fellowship of Waldens United Methodist Church.  Having a laid-back demeanor, Vince never met a stranger and always had a big smile for everyone he met. Being involved in a major auto accident in 2004, he suffered many physical difficulties and brain injuries with a major decline in health in 2008, spending the last two years in the nursing home. Through it all and to the end, his big, beautiful smile encouraged and uplifted his family and friends. His greatest joy was his family, whom he loved unconditionally, and was most content in their presence.

Vince was also preceded in death by his infant son, Jacob Todd Jones. Other survivors include his four children, Amanda Jones Clark (Jason Dukes), Kyle Vincent Jones (Breana Logue), Jeremy Roland Jones, and Victoria Hughes Crooks; three siblings, Jennifer Jones Dowdy (Eddie), Stephanie Jones Sanders (Kenneth), and Paul Bryan Jones; five grandchildren, Mikayla Lynn Clark, Shaun Cameron Clark, Allyanna Marie Clark, Hailie Lynn Crooks and Tristian Sleister; in-laws, Tommy McGahee, Patricia and Larry Kitchens, Josh McGahee (Ana), Cliff McGahee (Carli) and Tracy Kitchens (Renee); and church family and friends. Servings as pallbearers are Cliff McGahee, Josh McGahee, Tracy Kitchens, Brady Hadden, Russell McDonald and Tommy White. Honorary pallbearers will be the Waldens church members.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Waldens UMC Building Fund, c/o Patricia Kitchens, 1304 Hadden Pond Road, Avera GA 30803.

Heartfelt thanks and gratitude are extended to the staff of Heritage Inn of Sandersville Health and Rehabilitation Center for their excellent, loving and compassionate care.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday evening, July 26, 2017.

When I’m Gone

When I come to the end of my journey
And I travel my last weary mile,
Just forget, if you can, that I ever frowned
And only remember the smile.
Forget unkind words I have spoken;
Remember some good I have done.
Forget that I ever had heartache
And remember I’ve had loads of fun.
Forget that I’ve stumbled and blundered
And sometimes fell by the way.
Remember I have fought some hard battles
And won, ere the close of the day.
Then forget to grieve for my going—
I would not have you sad for a day,
But in summer just gather some flowers
And remember the place where I lay.
And come in the shade of evening
When the sun paints the sky in the west.
Stand for a few moments beside me
And remember only my best.
