Sarah Ellen Dukes Ledger

Bartow, GA  –             Sarah Ellen Dukes Ledger, 80, loving wife of 61 years to the late Paul Ledger, entered into her eternal rest early Thursday morning, August 1, 2019, at her residence. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held at Parker United Methodist Church at 3:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, August 3, 2019, with Elder Steve Flowers and Elder Emerson Proctor officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The youngest of seven and the only daughter of the late Katherine Watkins Dukes and the late John Dukes, Sarah was born and raised in Jefferson County near Wadley. Sarah was a homemaker while her children were growing up and was known for her hospitality and good home cooking. She and Paul often entertained extra folks for lunch on the farm.  After the children were grown, she worked for many years as the office manager at the Farm Bureau office in Louisville. She enjoyed meeting people and serving them through her work there.  Sarah loved the Lord and loved to express her love through her devotional writings, singing and playing the piano. She was a member of the Bethesda Primitive Baptist Church.  One of her most treasured experiences was writing a children’s book and collaborating with her grandson, Jarrett, who illustrated it.  She took great delight in sharing the story with others.  Sarah has joined her beloved husband, Paul, who passed away a few short weeks ago, in their heavenly home.

Sarah was preceded in death by all of her brothers, Esten Dukes, Grady Dukes, Jessie Dukes, Jimmie Dukes, Theron “Jack” Dukes, and Benny Dukes. Those left to cherish her memory include her three children, Greg Ledger (Patricia), Kathy Ross (Keith) and Lonnie Ledger (Gail); four grandchildren, Amber Wright, Will Ross (Paige), Kaitlin Ledger and Jarrett Ledger; nieces, nephews, her church family and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends at the family home immediately after the funeral service on Saturday, August 3, 2019.

The family would like to thank the health care professionals who cared for their parents, with special gratitude to Tammy Barbour and Ellen Tarver.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Trumpet of Truth, c/o Marty Mullis, 142 Cambridge Court, Tifton GA 31793 or to your favorite charity.

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father.
There is no shadow of turning with Thee
Thou changest not; Thy compassions they fail not
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
Great is Thy faithfulness--Great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see
And all I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.
Great is Thy faithfulness--Great is Thy faithfulness
Lord every morning new mercies I see
And all I have needed Thy hands hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me
So faithful to me
