Nadine Mae Schneider Unruh

Louisville, GA  –        Mother and grandmother, Nadine Mae Schneider Unruh was born to Edward E. and Ada Bates Schneider on April 17, 1926 at their home near Ithaca, Michigan. She peacefully left this life at the home of her daughter and loving caretaker, Sharilyn, early Sunday morning, April 8, 2018, reaching the age of almost ninety-two years.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday morning, April 11, 2018 at Pinecrest Mennonite Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Nadine spent her childhood years and received her formal education in Gratiot County near Ithaca, Michigan.  At the age of eleven, she realized her lost condition, repented of her sins and gave her heart to her Savior, Jesus Christ.  She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on March 16, 1938 by minister Frank Wenger.  She remained faithful to this commitment to the end.

On November 24, 1946, she was joined in marriage to John Unruh.  Together they shared life’s joys and sorrows for almost 63 years. To this union were born three sons and two daughters.

The early years of their marriage were spent in Michigan until January of 1963 when the family moved to Jefferson County, Georgia.  It was an exciting time to meet new friends and face new challenges.  Nadine was a frugal person and was able to stretch the family finances and resources to provide all that was needed.  Her children will always remember her creative cooking and sewing skills.

During her early married years, she was a nurse aid at a local hospital in Michigan.  Later, in Georgia, she accepted a position as Dietary Supervisor at the local hospital in Louisville. She enjoyed her time serving others. Her family benefited from her concern for the needs of others and providing spiritual stability in the home. The passing of her beloved husband in 2009 left a vacuum in her life which caused her to long for her heavenly home.  She especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Left to cherish fond memories are three sons, Calvin and Patricia Unruh of Murray KY, Gordon and Donna Unruh of Scio OR, and Mervin and Tina Unruh of Louisville; two daughters, Sharilyn and Kendal Hibner of Louisville, and Julie Dollar of Louisville; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; one brother, Edward and Geraldine Schneider of Moundridge, Kansas; and dear friend, Mattie Summy.  Her husband, parents, one son-in-law, five brothers, and three sisters preceded her in death.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rufus Dollar, Wesley Hibner, Brad Unruh, Clark Unruh, Kevin Unruh and Mylon Unruh.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening, April 10, 2018 at Pinecrest Mennonite Church.
