Margaret "Clyde" Holley

February 24, 1931 — April 19, 2019

Wrens, GA

Margaret “Clyde” Radford Holley

Wrens, GA  –              Margaret “Clyde” Radford Holley, 88, loving wife of 62 years to the late William Cicero “Dub” Holley, entered into her eternal rest Friday afternoon, April 19, 2019 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.  Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday morning, April 24, 2019 in the Wrens Baptist Church with Dr. Stan Littleton and Rev. Carson Fellows officiating. Interment will follow in Wrens Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The third of four children born to the late Lucile Evans Radford and the late Willie Radford, Clyde grew up in Dearing and graduated from Dearing High School. At the age of 19, she married the joy of her life and moved to Wrens. Clyde was employed at Stapleton Garment Company before going to work at Wrens Elementary where she retired after 17 years of service as a teachers’ aid.  Clyde accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a past member of Iron Hill Church and Mt. Horeb Baptist Church. She had also attended Wrens United Methodist Church but made Wrens Baptist Church her church home where she faithfully worshipped Jesus and was a member of the Lucy Howard Sunday School Class. A great cook and immaculate housekeeper, her first priority was taking care of her family and making their home a safe, comfortable haven. She did enjoy reading, especially her Bible and study guides. Clyde was always “well-groomed” and fastidious in her appearance—always with her makeup on and her hair done. (She did not allow anything to prevent her from keeping her weekly hair appointments.) Out-spoken in her Southern, charming way, her advanced years did not diminish the energetic force she exuded. A loving wife, devoted mother, loyal friend and faithful, obedient child of God, Clyde will be missed by her family, church family and community.

Clyde was also preceded in death by her son, Keith Holley; grandson, Will Holley; and all her siblings, Ray Radford, Myrtle Larimer and Shirley Bailey.  Survivors include her two sons, Kenneth Holley and Mark Holley; five grandchildren, Kenneth Holley Jr., Trent Holley (Ashley), Travis Beckworth, Stephanie Stewart and Kimberly McCarthy; three great grandchildren, Asher Holley, Addie Holley and Emme Kate Holley; daughter-in-law, Susan Perdue Holley; in-laws, nephews, nieces, church family and friends.  Pallbearers will be Emory Clements, Jeff Gay, Raymond James, Bill Newsome, Randy Smith and Ray Smith.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Lucy Howard Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening, April 23, 2019.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request that memorial contributions be made to Wrens Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 588, Wrens GA  30833.

Letting Go

The angels gathered near your bed
So very close to you
For they knew the pain and suffering
That you were going through.
I thought about so many things
As I held tightly to your hand.
Oh, how I wished that you were strong
And healthy once again.
But your eyes were looking homeward
To that place beyond the sky
Where Jesus held his outstretched arms
It was time to say “Good-bye”.
I struggled with my selfish thoughts
For I wanted you to stay
So we could walk and talk again
Like we did just yesterday.
But Jesus knew the answer
And I know He loved you so.
So, I gave to you the greatest gift—
The gift of letting go.
Now my heart will carry memories
Of the love you gave to me
Until we meet again in heaven
Where the best is yet to be.
