Liselotte Kress Garcia

Hephzibah, GA  –       Liselotte Kress Garcia, 86, loving wife of the late Manuel DJ Garcia, entered into her eternal rest Wednesday afternoon, September 20, 2017 at her residence.  A Celebration of Life service will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 5:00 P.M. Saturday evening, September 23, 2017 with Rev. Tim Hoover officiating.

Liselotte was one of thirteen children born to the late Betty Herbet Kress and the late Georg Kress in Sugenheim, Germany, where she grew up and graduated high school.  After marrying the love of her life, a military man, she moved to the states, living and traveling in the U.S. as well as Europe until, while being stationed at Ft. Gordon, he retired.  Vowing never to move again, they made Hephzibah their forever home.  Being very energetic, she was always busy—working in the yards, supporting her children in their activities and making a home for her family.  In her younger years, she was known for making the absolute best cheesecake.  This vivacious, feisty, straight-forward woman was brutally honest—she said what she meant, and meant what she said.  Liselotte loved people and never met a stranger—everyone was always welcomed and offered a cup of coffee. (She enjoyed her coffee, keeping a cup with her all day long.)  She was very independent with a fierce determination and strong will.  A loyal friend, she had a heart of gold. As a devoted wife and mother, she had an absolute and unwavering love for her family who gave her much pleasure and joy, especially her grandchildren.

Liselotte is also preceded in death by her daughter, Mickey Cheatwood, and son, Shawn Garcia.  Other survivors include her daughters, Jessy Hopkins (Mike) and Heidi Fourman of Longview TX; sister, Elfriede Jackson (Donald) of Florida; eight grandchildren, Allan Fourman (Samantha), Kevin Fourman (Colette), Candy Bodine (Jay), Billy Fourman (Kim), Shannon Mayfield (Darrell), Tammy Fourman, Kyrsten Hopkins, Madison Hopkins and Tammy Sanders (Geoff); several great-great grandchildren;  several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home after the services Saturday, September 23, 2017.

Legacy of Love
A wife, a mother, a grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you.
You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.
A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.
You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a wife, not just as a mother.
For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.
So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep.
