Drew Allen Hobbs

Gibson, GA  –             Drew “Allen” Hobbs, 66, loving husband of 27 years to Annette Cook Hobbs, entered into his eternal rest Tuesday night, March 20, 2018 at Augusta University in Augusta. Services to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, March 24, 2018 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Reese officiating.  The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday evening, March 23, 2018.

One of eight children born to the late Martha Jane Stewart Hobbs and the late Olan Hobbs, Allen was born and raised in Warren County and was a graduate of Warren County High School.  As a young boy, he attended Reedy Creek Baptist Church and was a Baptist by faith.  After serving a short stint in the Army, Allen moved to Eatonton where he worked as a carpenter building mobile homes for Horton Homes.  He then moved his family to Texas where he was the warehouse manager for Pitts Self Storage.  After living in Texas for five years, he moved back to Georgia to help care for his aging parents. He and his brother, Buddy, went into business together—Hobbs Septic and Construction—where they installed septic tanks, poured and finished concrete and cleared land.  He then became the concrete manager for All Star Concrete in Wrens. In 2004, Allen was forced to retire because of health issues.  In his pastime, he enjoyed fishing, getting his kids or wife to give him back massages, and being outdoors.  He could be found many days sitting on his porch, drinking sweet iced tea and just enjoying the fresh outdoors. Allen had a kind, gentle spirit and would often do without so that he could help others in need.  People gravitated to his genuine sweet smile—a stranger was just a friend he had not yet met. He loved to laugh and wanted everyone to be happy.  Above all else, he loved his family and was most content in their presence.  Allen will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Allen was also preceded in death by his siblings, Lee Olan “Buddy” Hobbs, Sara Holton, and Vera Mae Hobbs.  Other survivors include his three children, Donna H. Whitehead (Josh), Anthony A. Hobbs and Mark Hobbs Cliett; four siblings, Liz Johnson, Polly Burkey (Russell), Margie Cliett and Edwin Hobbs; six grandchildren, Kimberly Morrissette, Justin Whitehead, Kelsey Whitehead, Trenton Allen Hobbs, Jacob Daniel Hobbs and Candace Cliett; one great granddaughter, Karleigh Cliett; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Fisherman's Prayer

God grant that I may
Live to fish for another
Shining day;
But when my final cast
Is made I then most
Humbly pray.
When nestled in your
Landing Net as I lay
Peacefully asleep,
You'll smile at me
And judge that I am
Good enough to keep.
