Bobbie Holley Wimpy

Wrens, GA  –              Bobbie Jewel Holley Wimpy, 85, wife of the late Jack Alford Wimpy, peacefully entered into her eternal rest early Friday morning, September 1, 2017 at Silver Linings Personal Care Home in Stapleton. Funeral services will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 P.M. Monday afternoon, September 4, 2017, with Reverend Carson Fellows officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.

The youngest and only girl born to the late Rosa Mae Wheeler Holley and the late William “Bill” Macon Holley, Bobbie grew up in Matthews and attended Wrens High School where she excelled on the girls basketball team. After graduation she attended college in Statesboro. One weekend while enjoying the sun and beach at Tybee Island, she met Jack, an airman stationed at Hunter Airfield.  After a whirlwind romance, they married and traveled the world, being stationed in Germany, France, Homestead FL and Charleston SC. This life-style of traveling extensively suited Bobbie’s sense of adventure. In 1969 upon Jack’s retirement, their family returned to live in Wrens. A fun-loving, social couple, they enjoyed square dancing with the Wrens Wranglers. They also joined the fellowship as active members of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church.  After Jack’s passing, Bobbie moved her letter of faith to Wrens Baptist Church. Bobbie was always on-the-move either working or playing.  She worked as a bookkeeper for M.B. Jones Oil Company for many years until her reluctant retirement. Her determined, competitive nature served her well in life and in excelling her in favorite sports—tennis, softball, and basketball. She just loved being outside—taking long walks, usually with a friend (Bobbie would be the one at least a step ahead) and working in her yard, which gave her much pleasure.  She will be remembered for her industrious work ethic, strong-willed personality and fun-loving nature.  Rest in peace, Bobbie….

Bobbie is also preceded in death by all of her brothers, Ray Holley, Bill Holley Jr., Gene Holley and George Holley. Survivors include daughters, Sharon Fleming (Jimmy) and Janet Haburchak (David); seven grandchildren, Jef Fleming (Bev) of Augusta, Christi F. Thompson (Paul) of Glennville, Stephen Fleming of Athens, Kathryn H. Brown (Nick) of Marietta, Joshua Fleming (Stephanie) of Lafayette AL, Lauren H. Meadows (Jim Tindall) of Atlanta and Emily Fleming of Augusta; eight great grandchildren, Gracie Thompson, Mary Claire Thompson, Julia Thompson, Eben Thompson, Frances Fleming, Caleb Thompson, Hudson Brown and Rosalyn Fleming; a special double first cousin who she considered a sister, Margie Holley James; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.   Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law—Jef Fleming, Stephen Fleming, Joshua Fleming, Paul Thompson, Nick Brown and Jim Tindall Meadows.

During the last two years of her life, Bobbie lived at Silver Linings Personal Care Home where she was loved and cared for by her Silver Linings family to whom the family extends their heartfelt thanks and appreciation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 564, Wrens GA  30833.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday evening, September 3, 2017.

When I'm Gone
When I come to the end of my journey,
And I travel my last weary mile,
Just forget, if you can, that I ever frowned
And only remember the smile.
Forget unkind words I have spoken;
Remember some good I have done.
Forget that I ever had heartache
And remember I've had loads of fun.
Forget that I've stumbled and blundered
And sometimes fell by the way.
Remember I have fought some hard battles
And won, ere the close of the day.
Then forget to grieve for my going;
I would not have you sad for a day.
But in summer just gather some flowers
And remember the place where I lay.
And come in the shade of evening
When the sun paints the sky in the west.
Stand for a few moments beside me
And remember only my best.
