Richard Dale Meckley

Wrens, GA  –              Richard Dale Meckley, 69, loving husband of the late Leoma June Habig Meckley, entered into his eternal rest early Monday morning, July 10, 2017 at University Hospital McDuffie in Thomson. A Celebration of Life service with military honors will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 7:00 P.M. Thursday evening, July 13, 2017 with Rev. Chad Watkins officiating.

One of five children of the late Thelma Hope Haight Meckley and the late Isaac Meckley, Richard was born in Clymer PA, graduated from Purchase Line High School in Cookport PA after which he proudly served our country by joining the Army.  After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned home and married the love of his life, living in Commodore PA. Being mechanically inclined, he was a heavy equipment mechanic.  A self-proclaimed “grease monkey”, his passion was working on cars.  At one time he had all the mechanic books for all makes of cars and could be found working on friends and neighbors cars.  Richard was a lifelong, avid, die-hard Pittsburgh Steeler fan—it wasn’t a football game unless the Steelers were playing.  After the passing of his wife four years ago, he moved to Wrens to be with his son and daughter. Richard served his Lord and Savior as a past member of Fundamental Baptist in Commodore PA, a past member of Creekside United Methodist Church in Creekside PA, and as a member of Wrens United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed listening to country and bluegrass but especially loved the old hymns.  A generous, warm-hearted man who loved people, Richard never met a stranger. If he ever saw anyone beside the road with car troubles, he stopped to help; or would pickup anyone walking who needed a ride. His greatest joy was his family whom he loved unconditionally.

Richard is also preceded in death by his brother, Rodney Meckley; and his step-son, Randy Henry.  Survivors include his son, Thomas Meckley; daughter, Vicky S. Farmer (Nick Charles); siblings, Isaac Meckley Jr. (Carolyn), Robert Meckley (Susan), and Shron Stiffler (Tom); three grandchildren, Joshua Webb (Latorya), Nicole Meckley Jordan (Bryan), and Victor Farmer (Keshia); eleven great grandchildren, Zach Farmer, Victoria Famer, Areil Jordan, Antonio Jordan, Jonathan Jordan and six in Virginia; and his church family.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M. prior to the services at James Funeral Home Thursday evening, July 13, 2017.

I’m Free
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free.
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call;
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way;
I found that place at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss—
Ah, yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored much—
Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my time seems all too brief;
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now—He set me free!
