Penny Sammons Purvis

Stapleton, GA  –         Penny Sammons Purvis, 58, entered into her eternal rest Wednesday morning, November 1, 2017 at Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta. Services to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon, November 5, 2017 at Friendship Baptist Church in Mitchell with Reverend Wayne Hamilton officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date.

Penny was a native of Jefferson County where she attended Wrens High School and worked as a Garment Inspector for Stapleton Garment Company. She developed pulmonary problems with her health declining to the point that she became totally disabled. Penny accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, serving Him in the fellowship of Friendship Baptist Church where she taught children’s church.  She loved people, but especially children.  Listening to Christian music soothed her soul.  She did enjoy travelling to the mountains and was always awed by God’s handiwork. Penny was kind-hearted and generous, putting others needs before her own and always lending a helping hand in any way she could. Her sweet smile and gentle, loving spirit will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Penny is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Sammons; step-father, Joe Dixon; and brother, Tony Sammons. Those left to cherish her memory include daughter, Christie R. Gonzales (Victor) of Charleston SC;  her mother, Edna Brassell Dixon; two brothers, Teddy Sammons and Joseph Dixon Jr. (Pauline); aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, church family and many friends.

The family will receive friends in the church after the 1:00PM services Sunday afternoon, November 5, 2017.
