Orelia McCorkle Oliphant

Matthews, GA  –        Orelia McCorkle Oliphant, 82, loving wife of 66 years to Joe Reeves “Coot” Oliphant, entered into her eternal rest Thursday, October 20, 2016.  Funeral services will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, October 22, 2016 with Rev. Joe Walden and Rev. Janet Sack officiating. Interment will follow in Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

One of seven children born to the late Sybil Walker McCorkle and the late Rufus McCorkle, Orelia grew up in Jefferson County, graduated from Wrens High School after which she married the love of her life and has lived in the home they built for the last 66 years.  She was a hard worker, both inside and outside the home—working at Barrow & Prescott, the tag office in Louisville, and as a postal clerk in Hephzibah, Keysville, Matthews and Wrens.  She also helped Coot farm and “enjoyed” working with pecans for 64 years. When not working, she volunteered her time at various organizations—working with MYF at Mt. Moriah, the 4-H club, etc.  In her spare time, she enjoyed working in her flowers, traveling, walking on the beach at Tybee Island and spending time with her family.  Orelia loved her Lord and Savior, serving Him at Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church.  Having a servant’s heart, she was always ready to help those in need in any way she could.  Her greatest love was her family to whom she gave her best.  Orelia’s great personality, loving spirit and big, infectious smile will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Orelia is also preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Norton. Other survivors include her daughter, Patti Jo McLain (Jerry); grandson, Brandon McLain; five siblings, Willa Prescott, Wells McCorkle (Beth), Janie Ruth Hale (Nickie), Mary Ann Peeples (Ricky) and Sandy McCorkle (Dale); and many nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Gay, Jim Gay, Jim Milton, Sam Pennington, Alan Rabun and Milton Scott.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Mt. Moriah UMC, c/o Dianne Stewart, 8219 GA Hwy 88 E, Keysville GA  30816.

Memories In The Heart

Feel no guilt in laughter, she knows how much you care.
Feel no sorrow in a smile that she's not here to share.
You cannot grieve forever; she would not want you to.
She'd hope that you can carry on the way you always do.
So, talk about the good times and the ways you showed you cared;
The days you spent together, all the happiness you shared.
Let memories surround you.
A word someone may say
Will suddenly recapture a time, an hour, a day
That brings her back as clearly as though she were still here
And fills you with the feelings that she is always near.
For if you keep these moments, you will never be apart
And she will live forever locked safe within your heart.
