Lottie Elizabeth Peters Unruh

Louisville, GA  –        Lottie Elizabeth Peters Unruh, 99, loving wife of the late Harvey A. Unruh,  entered into her eternal rest Monday morning, January  25, 2016 at Pruitt Health-Old Capitol Nursing Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday morning, January 29, 2016 at Pinecrest Mennonite Church.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Lottie was the second child born to Alpha and Clara Gable Peters, on August 31, 1916, in Harrison, Michigan.  At the age of thirteen, Lottie answered God’s call. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite by Minister Fred Fricke on February 23, 1930.  She remained faithful to these vows until death.

Lottie and Harvey Unruh were married on October 21, 1934 by Minister Frank Haynes at Harrison, Michigan. The family lived in various places through the years:  western Kansas, Alabama, and Michigan.  Then, in 1954, Harvey and Lottie were the fifth family to settle in Georgia, bringing their family of two daughters and five sons.  Lottie loved everyone, reaching out and extending hospitality to their southern neighbors.  These neighbors and other contacts from a church mission became life-long friends, even after a move to the Louisville area in 1965.  She was energetic and busy, spending many hours baking food to deliver to others.  Many people still remark about her wonderful breads and rolls. Sadness came when the oldest son, Duane, was killed in a tragic accident.  After a house fire in 1999, they lived with different family members.  Harvey's health failed and he went to a care facility, where Lottie visited him daily. She was alone for twelve years after he died in 2003, but she kept an active social life, which included special friend, Ruth Boehs.  She never wanted to be a bother, even to family.  The family will all be quoting her when, having no preferences,  they say, “I don’t know.”

Survivors include two daughters,  Rosalie and Isaac Loewen of Oroville, California, and Thelma Gearig of Sedalia, Kentucky; four sons, Melvin and Barbara Unruh of Louisville, Georgia, Kenneth and Ann Unruh of Dumas Arkansas, Harlan and Glenda Unruh of Louisville, Georgia, and Ronald and Frances Unruh of Louisville, Georgia; a daughter-in-law, Mabel and Walter Ensz of Louisville, Georgia; thirty-five grandchildren; one hundred seventeen great-grandchildren; and twenty-seven great-great-grandchildren.  Three of her brothers survive her, Russell Peters of Michigan, Howard and Josephine Peters of Michigan, and Ivan Peters of Louisville, Georgia; two brothers-in-law, Chester and Laverna Unruh, and Russell and Dorothy Unruh of Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Joan Peters of Michigan, and Edna Unruh of Kansas; one brother-in-law, Noah Koehn of Kansas; an aunt, Elizabeth Peters Gable of Michigan; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family wishes to express their appreciation of the love and care shown by the staff and residents of Pruitt Health - Old Capitol of Louisville, Georgia.

The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 P.M. Thursday evening, January 28, 2016 at Pinecrest Mennonite Church.
