Linda Faye Thigpen Howard

Louisville, GA  –         Linda Faye Thigpen Howard, 70, loving wife of 52 years to Charles “Bennett” Howard, entered into her eternal rest Friday night, October 28, 2016 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta. Funeral services will be held at Waldens United Methodist Church at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday afternoon, November 2, 2016 with the Reverend Tommy Anderson officiating.

One of nine children born to the late Opal Daniel Thigpen and the late John Oliver Thigpen, Linda was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County.  First and foremost, she was a Christian who loved her Lord and Savior, serving him as an active member of Waldens United Methodist Church where she taught children’s Sunday School class.  She worked in quality control at Fortsman’s for many years, after which she obtained her associates degree and became a substitute teacher at Jefferson County High School.  An excellent homemaker for her family, she loved to cook and go fishing when time and opportunity permitted.  Having a servant’s heart, she had a very generous, giving spirit and always helped others in any way she could. She endeavored to always have a peaceful, harmonious relationship with everyone. Linda loved her family unconditionally and was most content in their presence.  Death left a void that no one can fill, but love has left memories that no one can steal.

Linda is also preceded in death by five brothers, Jimmy Thigpen, Leaman Thigpen, Ronnie Thigpen, Dan Thigpen and Infant Boy Thigpen. Other survivors include her four children, Charles “Benjie” Howard, Jr., Tommy Howard (Susan), Rhonda Garrett (Rick) and Chris Howard; three siblings, Elvin Thigpen (Virginia), Donnie Thigpen (Cheryl) and Glenda Gilleand (Phillip); five grandchildren, Taylor H. Troy (A.J.), Tyler Howard, Andrew Howard, Tiera Story and Colton Howard; one great grandson, Spencer Ploof; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tyler Howard, Tom Austin, Michael Brown, Larry Kitchens, Fay McGahee and Harold McGahee.

The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 – 2:30 P.M. prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, November 2, 2016.

I’m Free

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free.
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call;
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way;
I found that place at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss—
Ah, yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored much—
Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my time seems all too brief;
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now—He set me free!
