Josie Clarice Shellhouse Palmer

Hephzibah, GA  – Josie Clarice Shellhouse Palmer, 65, loving wife of 47 years to Charlie G. Palmer, Jr., entered into eternal rest Friday night, July 10, 2015 at her residence. Celebration of Life services will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00AM Tuesday, July 14, 2015 with Rev. Jason Buron officiating.

Josie was one of eleven children born to the late Virginia McHan Shellhouse and the late Hubert Shellhouse. She grew up and was raised in Cuthberth GA where she met the love of her life at a football game, and, after dating for two years, was married. Because of job opportunities, they moved to Hephzibah in 1979.  Josie was a homemaker, making her husband and daughters her top priority—she tried to take care of their every need.  Having a natural talent for cooking, Josie enjoyed not only cooking meals for her family, but also loved to bake and make candy, and was known for her fudge, divinity, lemon pie, and rock-hard chocolate cake—just to name a few.  She was a voracious reader, enjoying mystery novels, and listened to good ‘ole country music as well as gospel music and the goldie oldies.  A happy-go-lucky person, she loved to joke around and exuded a positive attitude. Above all else, she loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her vibrant personality and loving spirit will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Josie is also preceded in death by her siblings, two infant babies, Marvin Shellhouse, William Shellhouse, Charles Shellhouse, Ricky Shellhouse, and Betty Marshall.  Other survivors include her daughters, Shonda Jo Palmer Graham (Jeremy), Rhonda Jo Palmer Davis (Chris) and Mariya Dunkel (Greg); three sisters, Alice Hayes (Jimmy), Nell Tomblin (Johnny) and Clara Kingsmill (Darrell); six grandchildren, Nicholas Case, Ryan Case, Rhyanna Palmer, Christy Davis, Gavin Davis and Max Dunkel; son-in-law, Jason Case; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Friends may come for the viewing and visitation at James Funeral Home prior to the service on Tuesday morning, July 14, 2015 from 9:00-11:00A.M.

Legacy of Love

A wife, a mother, a grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you.

You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.

A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.

You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a wife, not just as a mother.

For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.

So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep.
