James “Jimmy” Edward Hughes

Stapleton, GA  –         James “Jimmy” Edward Hughes, 74, entered into his eternal rest on Thursday afternoon, April 6, 2017 at Pruitt Health Nursing Home in Swainsboro.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at James Funeral Home at 2:00 P.M. Friday afternoon, April 14, 2017 with Rev. Ed Chance officiating. A private interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Born in Atlanta to the late Mary Frances Hughes Thigpen, Jimmy grew up and attended school in Stapleton.   At the age of 17, he accepted Jesus as his Savior and joined the fellowship of Stapleton Baptist Church—he loved going to church and his church family.  Having been born mentally challenged, Jimmy had a sweet, innocent love for everyone and was incapable of holding a grudge.  He was humble, meek and genuinely grateful for anything and everything anyone did for him, especially for the friendships and loving attention given to him.  In his last days, Jimmy was ready to leave this temporary abode and looking forward to going to his eternal home.

Survivors include his loving sister, Betty Beasley (Larry); special friends, Bennett Clark, Norma Prescott and Martha Usry; and his church family.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made directly to James Funeral Home, PO Box 588, Wrens  GA 30833.

If You Could See Me Now

If you could see me now,  you wouldn’t shed a tear.
Though you may not understand why I’m no longer there.
Remember my spirit—that is the real me
Because I’m still very much alive—I’ve just been set free.
Oh! If you could only see!
I have beheld our Father’s face and I’ve touched my Savior’s hand.
All of Heaven’s angels rejoiced asI entered the promised land.
Beyond the gates of pearl, I’ve walked on the golden streets.
I’ve touched the walls of jasper and dipped my foot in the Crystal Sea.
The beauty is beyond words and nothing could compare.
I’ve seen your mansion and someday I’ll meet you there.
Let Jesus be  your guide because His Word will show you the way!
So, please don’t cry — we will meet again someday!
