Elizabeth Stewart Huff
Stapleton, GA – Elizabeth Arrington Stewart Huff, 91, loving wife of the late Lester Stewart and the late Lewis Huff, and devoted companion of the late Wallace Sikes, entered into her eternal rest Wednesday morning, December 28, 2016 at University Heart Vascular Center in Augusta. Funeral services will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, December 31, 2016 with Reverend Albert “Bucky” Halford officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery.
One of ten children born to the late Laura Sellers Arrington and the late John Arrington, Elizabeth was a lifelong resident of the CSRA, having resided in Burke, Richmond and Jefferson counties and living in Stapleton since 1965. An industrious, hard-worker, she worked as a Trimmer at Stapleton Garment Company, retiring with 30 years of service while raising eight children. She was a great cook and baker but also loved being and working outdoors—fishing, working with flowers, picking up pecans, and picking and canning peas, butterbeans and other vegetables. Everything she did was done with purity of heart, love and joy. Having a servant’s heart, she was always friendly and had a kind word for everyone, and could be depended upon to help others in any way she could. She was a people-person but had a special love for babies and children. Most of all, Elizabeth was proud of her family whom she loved unconditionally. Her feisty, loving spirit will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing this dedicated, devoted wife, companion, mother, grandmother and friend.
Elizabeth is also preceded in death by four children, Evelyn Mobley, Barbara Ann Prescott, Mary Faye Newsome and Lester Lynwood Stewart; seven siblings, Carrie Amerson, Louise Smith, Lois Holland, Ruth Andrews, Voncil Prickett, Liza Mae Prickett and Alton Stewart; two grandsons, James Akerson and Rodney L. Snipes; and three great grandsons, Dennis Miller Jr., Austin Thigpen and Mark Purvis. Survivors include four children, Lonnie F. Stewart (Peggy), Terry Stewart, Geraldine Snipes (James) and Sarah Snipes (George); two brothers, Grady Stewart (Carolyn) and James Stewart (Wanda); twenty-one grandchildren, Dale Mobley (April), Joey Mobley, Lisa Usry (Bob) Dianne Rabitch (Buddy), Susan Prescott, Tanny Prescott (Janet), Bill Prescott, Linda Miller, Robbie Newsome, Brenda Newsome, Beth Newsome, Sharon Baxter (Tim), Pam Davis (Tony), Dana Holmes (Isao), Lonnie Quick, Cindy Thigpen (Mitch), Terry Stewart Jr., Angela Usry (Tim), Benjamin Snipes (Nicole), April Glosson (Colby) and Tammy L. Broome; forty-five great grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Travis Baxter, Justin Hadden, Lonnie Quick, Ben Snipes, Dylan Snipes and Tim Usry.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 1:00-3:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, December 31, 2016, prior to the funeral services.
