Danny Herman Hillman

Matthews, GA  –        Danny Herman Hillman, 60, loving husband of Joy Rebecca Arrington Hillman, entered into his eternal rest late Friday night, September 1, 2017 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta. Funeral services will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday afternoon, September 5, 2017 with Reverend Tony Key officiating.  Interment will follow in the Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Danny grew up in the panhandle area, graduated from Warren County High School and worked for Stapleton Garment Company, Augusta Sportsman, Howard Sheppard before driving for UPS, a job he loved. Being musically inclined, he could play the guitar, banjo—anything with strings—and could often times be found strumming and picking.  This relaxed him and soothed his soul.  Danny loved to travel, especially trips to the mountains with Helen being his favorite place to visit. He enjoyed working in the yard—growing flowers and cutting grass.  He found this also a time of peaceful relaxation. When not at work, his canine buddy, Sapphire, was his constant companion and wherever  Danny was, Sapphire was right there with him.  His was a “common-sense conservative” and enjoyed political discussions, which he could do for hours.  Danny had a gentle, caring spirit and was kind and helpful to everyone.  Being a very social person, he wanted everyone happy—he did not like discord and always promoted unity and peace.  A loyal friend, he was generous to a fault. Above all else, he loved his family—he would do anything for his bride and the grandchildren who stole his heart.  Danny was a simple man who lived a simple life filled with love.

Danny is preceded in death by his mother, Faye Gillis Hillman; and sister, Cheryl Hillman.  Other survivors include his father and step-mother, James E. and Shirley Hillman; children, Rebecca Bartlett and W.G. Bartlett (Cassie); siblings, Jerry Hillman (Judy), Ricky Johnson (Sonya), Kenny Hackle, Gail Holbrook (Charles) and Teresa Wilburn (James); five grandchildren, Hunter Copeland, Logan Newsome, Reagan Bartlett, Jaedon Crunkelton and Kendal Crunkelton; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Berry Arrington, W.G. Bartlett, Brad Kitchens, Steve McGuffin, John Smith and Jeff Welch.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday evening, September 4, 2017.

LETTING GO

The angels gathered near your bed
So very close to you
For they knew the pain and suffering
That you were going through.
I thought about so many things
As I held tightly to your hand.
Oh, how I wished that  you were strong
And healthy once again.
But your eyes were looking homeward
To that place beyond the sky
Where Jesus held His outstretched arms
It was time to say “Good-bye”.
I struggled with my selfish thoughts
For I wanted you to stay
So we could walk and talk again
Life we did just yesterday.
But Jesus knew the answer
And I know He loved you so.
So, I gave to you the greatest gift—
The gift of letting go.
Now my heart will carry memories
Of the love you gave to me
Until we meet again in Heaven
Where the best is yet to be.
