Wrens, GA – Bobby Joe Gates, 69, loving husband of the late Betty Louise Abernathy Gates, entered into his eternal rest Thursday, December 10, 2015 at his residence.
Bobby was born to the late Dorothy Lee Turner Gates and the late Jeffrey James Gates in Augusta and was raised in Burke County. A carpenter by trade, he traveled the southeast framing houses and apartment complexes. His favorite pastimes were fishing and riding motorcycles. Bobby was a happy-go-lucky person who was always in good spirits and had a generous nature about him, helping others whenever and however he could. He loved his family and friends and treasured the time spent with them.
Bobby is also preceded in death by his grandchildren, Joseph James Gates and Emily Abigail Delacruz. Survivors include his children, Barbara Jean Gates (Fermin Delacruz) and James “Jimbo” Gates (Teresa); six siblings, Marion Gates, Charles Moxley, Billy Moxley, Johnny Moxley, Patsy Gates and Mary Jo Gates; two grandchildren, Amanda Gates (Dwayne Hills) and Fermin Delacruz-Gates; four great grandchildren, Zykendria Gates, Zamiah Gates, Z’Aysia Gates and Za’Quavious Gates; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
